Calf tattoos: size and placement

updated

A calf tattoo is usually 8–15 cm (3–6 in) on its longest side; a large calf piece runs 15–25 cm (6–10 in). Long and rounded, like a bigger forearm.

Sizes

Which designs suit the calf

Long and rounded, like a bigger forearm. Shown by shorts. It wraps strongly round the back of the leg, so wide pieces bend out of sight. An upright piece like the lion and sun woodcut sits on the back of the calf at 12 cm.

Before you book

Measure the spot on yourself along the skin, following the curve, not in a straight line. Bring the size in centimetres to your artist, with front and side views: how to plan a tattoo covers the rest.
